Memorandum of the Family of Allama Iqbal for the Ministry of National Heritage and Integration
It is with a great deal of concern and misgiving that all members of the Allama Iqbal family of look at the recent actions taken by certain circles which, apparently targeting the present Director of Iqbal Academy, Muhammad Suheyl Umar, in effect plunge the Academy itself into a crisis that may imperil the very existence and activity of the institution. Naturally, we have an affinity with the Academy due to Allama Iqbal and we would in no way like that this institution, which is guiding the development of Iqbal Studies in the correct direction, should become a victim of chaos. In case these attempts continue, we would be compelled to think that some powerful elements actually want to suppress the voice of Iqbal while naming Suheyl Umar. We know very well that through his efforts, Mr. Suheyl Umar has elevated the Academy from the level of a conventional government body to an international organization, and wherever serious work on Iqbal’s thought and poetry is undertaken in the world today, Iqbal Academy is the motivating force and facilitator for it. Any attempt to dissociate such a personality from the Iqbal Academy who has channelized all available means for the dissemination of Iqbal’s vision tantamount to thwart the tradition of Iqbal Studies. We are compelled to see this whole process as an act of deviation from the real ideals of national life.

I condemn the recent attempt to remove the Director of the Iqbal Academy from his post. The action was illegal and unethical.
ReplyDeleteHappy to learn about this move by Iqbal's immediate family. Hope it will create some waves.
ReplyDeleteI am appalled at this step from government!! I am with all of the above people who signed this petition.
ReplyDeleteI can't see the exact undercurrent but theoretically I support change, especially at the top, that is conditional to merit. Individuals leading one organisation for longer duration may undermine the expansion and development of the institutions.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I respect the stance of the Iqbal's family and hope the decision makers will give due consideration to their request.
@Faheem: I think you missed the word "illegaly" in the first paragraph of this post :).
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this English translation. God willing, may this be resolved in such a manner that the dissemination of Iqbal's message continues unabated.
All good wishes,
robert
It's great to see Iqbal's family speaking out against this illegal action, thus supporting Mr. Suhayl Umar.
