Khurram Ali Shafique is historian, educationist and playwright. His published works include The Republic of Rumi: A Novel of Reality (2007) and a six-part series of Iqbal's biography in Urdu, the first three books of which have been published as Iqbal: Ibtidai Daur (2003/2009), Iqbal: Tashkeeli Daur (2009) and Iqbal: Darmiani Daur (2012). He was awarded the Presidential Iqbal Award on his pictorial biography of Iqbal, Iqbal: An Illustrated Biography (2006), which is being translated into several languages including German, French and Persian.
He is currently working as a research consultant for Iqbal Academy Pakistan (Federal Ministry of Culture) on projects related to print, electronic and online media.
He was also the author of 'Life and Times of Pakistan', a 75-page cover story in Herald (Golden Jubilee of Independence Issue), August 1997, which subsequently led to the creation of the online Chronicle of Pakistan. He has also contributed over 200 articles to the national press on history, feminism, literature, cinema and other related issues.
As an educationist, he has worked as a visiting lecturer, teacher-trainer and consultant for curriculum development with various institutions including Teachers' Resource Centre, Beaconhouse School System, Aga Khan Education Service-Pakistan and Hamdard Institute of Management Sciences. He has also delivered lectures and read papers on various international forums including the International Rumi Conference in Tabriz (Iran), Iqbal Seminar in Delhi (India), Iqbal Seminar in the University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong), various workshops and presentations at the University of Mauritius (Mauritius) and the Urdu Language Union (Mauritius) and an extensive lecture at Cambridge (UK).
His screenplays for television have mostly been based on Persian classics, especially the Khamseh of the thirteenth-century poet Nizami Ganjevi.
He offers online courses in Iqbal Studies from Iqbal Academy Pakistan at Marghdeen Learning Centre.
