Cenotaph of the tomb of Hazrat Ibrahim (aliha as salam) |
This is a special post celebrating the Islamic month of Zil Hajj. In the Muslim world, this time of the year is connected with the memory of Abraham, or Hazrat Ibrahim (alaih as salam).
Iqbal has summarized the spiritual history of the ancient world through seven visions in the first chapter of Javid Nama (1932). Just after introducing the oldest religion Hinduism, and before moving on to later religions such as Buddhism and Zoroastrianism, he presents the mythical figure of Sarosh as the angel who inspires music and poetry. A possible interpretation is that the acquisition of aesthetics and verbal arts (symbolized by Sarosh) occurred sometime before the appearance of Buddhism and Zoroastrianism, and was an important landmark in the spiritual development of humanity. Looking for a reference in the Quran to some historical personality who lived around this time and could be regarded as a trendsetter in verbal arts, our most likely choice is Hazrat Ibrahim (alaih as salam).
The Vedas of the Hindus were written aboutfour centuries before the advent of Zorastrianism, Buddhism and Jainism and about two to three centuries after Moses (Hazrat Musa ale salam). On Moses was revealed the Torah. Abraham's (Hazrat Ibraheem ale salam) dates are not clear. He lived somewhere between the 18th and 20th century BC. The Quran speaks of Ibraheem's 'saheefey'
ReplyDeleteI have posted a reference to your post (under comments to my latest oneheartforpeace dot blogspot dot com entry)for this day, Thursday 3rd November.
ReplyDeleteSo from now on I will also remember (and observe at special times) Ibrahim as Father or World Lit!
Shukriya for your special historical, literary and sacred notation.
@Nazli Javed: Thanks. So, what you are saying is also that Abraham preceded Moses, Vedas, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Jainism.
ReplyDelete@Nazli Javed: As far as presenting Hinduism as the oldest religion in Javid Nama, that need not be on the basis of the existing written texts of Hinduism alone, which are dated from a much later period. It can easily be presumed that are based on metaphysical truths that were passed on from much before.
ReplyDelete"our most likely choice is IBRAHIM"

Yes that is right. The infiltration of the aryan nomads into Iran and Sindh took place before the destruction of Moenjodara...about 2000 to 1500 BC. The Aryans were a developed people who had their own belief systems and social organization. But when they came in contact with the people of the Harrapan civilisation here in what is Pakistan today, they absorbed the beliefs and customs and systems of these conquered peoples. This synthesis further metamorphosed as they kept on moving towards the Gangetic plains eventually culminating in the belief system that today is known as Hinduism.
ReplyDeleteConnected memory of Ibrahum is your special presentation and its definately pioneer of literature
ReplyDeletewith his creature memorise us every year to estimate our relation with Allah not directly but indirectly sacrifysing for his other creations
As Islam is the last established religion and in a part of the world which was truly the most backward region with illiterate Barberic and tyrant inhabitants apart from the HOLY QURAN it is hard to accept anything as credible. specially that which comes from this region that belongs to that era. which doubted snd opposed even the last prophet.
ReplyDeleteARABIA does not permit the modern day scholars and reaearchers to explore and find the facts and present it to the rest of the world to enlighten them about the facts that even muslims are not aware of. So when today's Muslim speaks about the days of ABRAHAM and MOSES and when they are absolutely ignorant about the VEDAS, it is difficult to accept their words as facts or truth.
The vedas VERY RESPECTFULLY and clearly mention and speak about the Biblical prophets and about Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W) because India the country when it was BHARAT was spread all the way up to PARTS OF TURKEY AND ISRAEL on one side and INDONESIA AND THAILAND on the other. Infact one of the most popular and successful kings of SAUDI ARABIA was RAJA BHOJ. "Remember the saying " kahaan raja bhoj AUR kAHAAN gangu teli?"

ReplyDeleteSirf is liye ki aapka padosee apni maa ko AMMI nahi balki maa kehta hai ya ABU ko ABBA nahi bulqi BABA kehta hai kya woh baghair maa baap mana jayega? Isee tarah agar woh Allah ko EESHWAR ya PARAMAATMA kehta hai to woh KAAFIR nahin huwa. Aur kya kiyun ki Islam se pehelay ke log eeshwar ko khush karne ke liye HAWAN karthe thay ya samagri ki ahuti dete thay SHLOK KE UCHCHARAN KARTHE HUWAY kya woh kafir huway? nahin. Kufr woh hai jo ALLAH, EESHWAR YA GOD ko apni jaageer man kar doosray ke liye sochtay hain ki ALLAH USKA NAHIN HAI.

ALLAH SAB KA HAAFIZ HAI MAGAR TUM ALLAH KE MUHAFIZ NAHI HO IS LIYE TUMHAY ALLAH KI TARAF SAY LADNE KA HAQ NAHIN HAI. ALLAH SAB KI HIFAZAT KARTHA HAI. USKA KOI SHAMIL NAHIN HAREEK NAHIN. USKE BARABAR KA BHI KOI NAHIN. USKE NAAM PAR ZULM JO KARTHAY HAIN WOH ALLAH WALAY NAHIN HAIN.
