Jauhar: English prose

The writings of Muhammad Ali Jauhar (1878-1931) can be divided into:
  1. English prose
  2. Urdu prose
  3. Urdu poetry
In English prose, the following items may be regarded as necessary readings without which our understanding of the modern world might be in danger of remaining one-sided:
  1. Thoughts on the Present Discontent (1907)
  2. The Future of Islam (1912)
  3. The Choice of the Turks (1914)
  4. Khilafat speeches (1920)
  5. Defense presented during trial for sedition (1922)
  6. Presidential address to the annual session of Indian National Congress (1925)
  7. The last speech in London (1930)
Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the second item (‘The Future of Islam’) at present, but excerpts from the rest are going to be shared on this blog.
